When you've moved in

Council Tax

Tell your local council when you move in to a non-service home so that you're registered to pay council tax.  Council tax is based on the value of the property whether renting or buying. For detailed information visit Council Tax - Moray or Council Tax - Highland

Utilities

Domestic water and waste water charges are collected with your council tax on behalf of Scottish Water.

Gas, electricity, oil, internet and telephone landline - tell existing suppliers of the date you move in, take meter readings and send them to the supplier so you're not charged for the previous occupier's use. If possible take a photograph of the meter in case of dispute.

House Insurance

As a home owner you'll need buildings and contents insurance. If you're a tenant you just need contents insurance as the landlord should arrange buildings insurance.

GP and Dentist

Register you and your family with a local GP and dentist which can be found on the Health and Wellbeing page. The registration form asks if you and your family are part of the Armed Forces community which you're encouraged to declare.
